News from CEL – Save the date: World Book Day event

Saturday, March 7, 2020

Imagine: every child and young person having a book to call their very own. That’s the vision of World Book Day. It’s one we’re delighted to support since libraries like ours provide an irreplaceable hub for community reading experiences. Celebrate with us!

Join us for an afternoon of readings from books around the world, crafts and collaborative storytelling activities. And treat yourself to some goodies at our bake sale… because it’s no fun reading on an empty stomach. The event will run from 1-4pm, while the library will remain open until 5pm.

Mark your calendars and please stay tuned for more details!

(we know the logo shows a different date – schools in the UK celebrate World Book Day on the Thursday – we aren’t open so we are going for the Satruday 7th March)

Join us for wine, cheese and fun on Friday, January 31!

Unwind after a long week with an evening of wine and cheese at the library! Join your fellow CEL members for a collaborative game of “Famous Couples Throughout History”. It’s a fun way to get to know some library patrons you don’t see during our regular opening hours. And why not bring along a friend and introduce them to our all-volunteer library?

All you need to participate is yourself and a smile. We’ll also contact you directly about one consumable item to take (such as wine, cheese or water).
This event is complimentary for CEL members. Non-member guests are asked to make a €2 donation to the library.

When: Friday, January 31, 7:30-10:30pm
Where: Traubergstrasse 30
RSVP: January 15 – please email cheeseandwine@celstuttgart.de and tell us how many are in your party.

Hope to see you there!

January’s Spotlight is on Lions

You probably already know that a group of lions is called a pride. Did you know that the average pride consists of around 15 lions, including several adult females and up to four males and their cubs of both sexes? There are lots of books starring lions at the library. For example, in picture books there is “There’s a Lion in my Cornflakes!” by Michelle Robinson, “Christian the Lion” by Ruth Knowles in JF and in Nonfiction there is “Lion” by David Kennett (599). Come check one out at the library!

Start the new year …

with a good book – normal opening times resume on Friday at 10:00…

with a song – on Friday morning with Rhyme Time from 10:30

with a story – come join us for Friday Fun!
We’ll be reading The Mitten and making these cute mittens.
Book at 3:30 and craft to follow!

No photo description available.

Holiday closing…

Last chance to change or renew your books this year!
We will be open tomorrow as usual and then next Friday 10:00-12:00 and 14:30-16:30 – then we will be closed until 10th January 2020.

(Apologies that we were unexpectedly closed due to illness this morning)

A thank you and the promise of snow on Friday @ CEL

BooksA big heartfelt thank you to all who donated books and helped spread the word about our Children’s Book Drive!

We collected more than 300 books plus 75 pixie books. We were able to donate books to three different organizations- the SOS Kinderdorf, the Sophienpflege Jugendhilfe in Tübingen, and Jugendhilfe Korntal. Our contacts at the three organizations were so grateful and happy to receive these books for the children in their care.

Thank you once again for your help in making our first annual Children’s Book Drive a success! 🎄🎅📚❤️🎅🎄

Let’s make it snow at CEL!
Join us for Friday Fun this week to make some paper snowflakes
Story at 3:30, then craft to follow

Please bring plenty of good cheer along with one food item. More details on which item we’ll ask you to bring (such as wine, cheese or water) will be shared with you directly in mid-January.

December’s Spotlight is on Hugh Lofting

Hugh Lofting is the creator of beloved character, Dr. Dolittle. Lofting is a British author who was a civil engineer before he became a children’s author. Lofting served in the British Army in WWI and instead of writing to his children about what he was experiencing, he wrote imaginative stories to them that became the basis for Dr. Dolittle. Lofting’s Dolittle books are found in the JF area of the library. Come check one out today!
