CEL Summer News

Hello CEL members,

Here is an update on what’s going on at the Library:

  • Our Summer Reading Challenge runs from July 1st through September 13th! You can pick up one or both of the reading logs at the library or print one out at home Summer_Reading_Challenge Logs and then get reading! All participants can pick up a certificate and a small prize at the library from September 13 until October 12th.
  • Could you lead a Saturday Workshop? Do have an idea? If not, then maybe one of these will strike your fancy: lego challenge, storytelling, self portrait activity, experiments, baking, kid’s yoga/movement. Please let us know if you are interested and what date works for you at workshops@celstuttgart.de.
  • Do your kids have a book recommendation? We would love to hear them! You can pick up a book recommendation slip at the library or simply post it on the members’ Facebook group. Just tell us the name of the book and why they liked it along with your child´s name and age.
  • Don’t forget there is Rhyme Time on Friday mornings and Friday Fun on Friday afternoons! The library is a great place to visit to stay cool on these hot summer days!

May’s Spotlight is on C.S. Lewis

Clive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast (which was then in Ireland) in 1898. His is best known for his works of fiction, including The Chronicles of Narnia. Lewis wrote more than 30 books, which have been translated into more than 30 languages and have sold millions of copies! Lewis attended Oxford University, with his studies interrupted by the first World War (he eventually went back and finished his studies after the war). Lewis and fellow novelist J. R. R. Tolkien were close friends. They both served on the English faculty at Oxford University. Come check one of his books out today!

April’s spotlight is on sheep. Did you know that there are over 1 billion sheep in the world? CEL has lots of picture books about these furry animals, like “Baa Baa”, “Russell the Sheep” and “The Lamb who Came for Dinner”.
