Astrid Lindgren is a Swedish author best known for her children’s series featuring Pippi Longstocking. She is the world’s most translated author and the fourth most translated children’s author. She’s sold roughly 144 million books worldwide. Astrid has a literary prize named for her, which is awarded to a Swedish-language children’s writer every year on her birthday in November. Following her death, the Swedish government instituted the Astrid Lindgren Memorial award in her memory- it’s the largest monetary award for children’s and youth literature- 5 million Swedish kroner! As of 2015 Lindgren’s portrait is on the 20 kroner banknote, too!
