FRIDAY FUNTIME 4:15pm START on Friday 7th December.
Our lovely student volunteers will be leading our Friday fun-time this week with whimsical Christmas tree decoration craft. Due to their school hours they’ll be starting a little later than usual giving you plenty of time to park, meander from the Ubahn, stop in the playground and choose your books.
Hope to see you there!

If you didn’t have enough cookies and cakes at the CEL open afternoon on Saturday there will be baking on Friday afternoon – story time at 15:30 and afterwards the chance to make biscuits with Claire. Please let us know if you plan to join us – info@celstuttgart.de
Please note that due to volunteer work commitments – this Friday afternoon CEL will be open from15:00 (rather than 14:30)
Thank you also to all those who supported us, we raised over 300 euros to be split between CEL and 1st Stuttgart Rainbows/Brownies/Guides … and welcome to those new members who signed up on Saturday! Come and see us again at CEL soon.
November Spotlight is on books about giving thanks
Show & Tell at CEL – pre-order form for cakes and cookies
The girls from the 1st Stuttgart Rainbows, Brownies and Guides (with Emma’s help) will be baking cookies and cupcakes to sell at the CEL Show and Tell open afternoon (Saturday 10th November – 13:00-17:00) to raise funds to buy the necessary resources for the new Girlguiding programme unveiled this summer.
Pre-ordered cookies and cakes will be available for collection on the day. There will also be other cakes and delights made by the girls to eat at CEL with a cup of coffee or tea
during the open afternoon. (proceeds from this will go to CEL)
To avoid disappointment and to help us plan we would be grateful if you could indicate below how many cookies/cupcakes you would like to pre-order.
Please hand your donation and CakeOrderForm– in an envelope to the volunteer at the desk or e-mail to info@celstuttgart.de
If you can’t make the open day (or are feeling generous) you can also donate ingredients for the baking – there is a box at CEL
October’s Spotlight is on Judy Blume
Judy Blume is a beloved American author known for her children’s and YA books like “Are you There, God? It’s Me Margaret”, “Blubber” and Double Fudge” (and my personal favorite- “Freckle Juice”). In the USA, Blume is one of the most frequently challenged authors of the 21st century because of her writing on subjects considered to be taboo, but despite those efforts, Blume’s books have sold over 82 million copies and have been translated into over 32 languages. Judy Blume has also written books for adults and has won many writing awards. Come check one of her books out at the library.
CEL will be closed on Wednesday 26th September
Due to a shortage of volunteers CEL will be closed on Wednesday 26th September. We will be open as usual on the Friday 28th.
We will also be closed on Wednesday 3rd October as it is a public holiday.
Show & Tell at CEL – an open afternoon for members and not-yet members
Put Saturday 10th November – 13:00-17:00 in your diary and pop along to CEL – and bring along all those English speaking friends who have never quite got round to coming!
The girls from 1st Stuttgart Rainbows, Brownies and Guides will be offering tours of the library, readings, a quiz, a craft and of course coffee and cake … to encourage more people to come and see what CEL has to offer … and of course all our members are invited to join the fun.
We’ll have fliers at CEL for you to give to friends.
A new term at CEL
With the schools starting back this week we are gearing up again at CEL.
We have returned to our normal Wednesday, Friday and Saturday opening hours.
Do your littles have the wiggles? Of course they do! Shake those sillies out with movement songs at Rhyme Time this Friday at 10:30am. There will be instruments to shake too.
This Friday afternoon we’ll have drop in activities for you and your children.
Remember, if you’re able to host the odd activity on a Friday afternoon, please do add your name to the Doodle! https://doodle.com/poll/3kmxm3u3qe2ec8r7 Claire and Iris are there pretty much every week but they will happily be relieved! Pop your name down and bring your activity along
Ideas are being sought for Saturday workshops or Wednesday afternoon activities… if you would like to offer something please send your ideas and a suggested date to workshops@celstuttgart.de
There has also been a suggestion of a kids book club -“Any interest in a book club for middle readers? I was thinking every other month… Or something? Just trying to help my older kids with English reading and writing skills.” Let us know if you would be interested info@celstuttgart.de
Finally thank you to Emma for organising the Mama Mia 2 trip … hope you all have lots of fun on Friday evening.
